The bits
people
always ask

Still unsure? Come and take the free trial class. The answers make a lot more sense on the mats.

01I’ve never trained before. Is Stance beginner-friendly?
Of course! You do not need any experience at all: our Beginner Programme is built for total first-timers, and your first class is on us. All you need for day one is a t-shirt, shorts and a bottle of water to keep you hydrated. That is it!
02I’m not fit or flexible enough. Can I still start?
Yes. Nobody arrives fit for Jiu Jitsu. You get fit by doing it. Our Beginner Programme starts with the basics, and you work at your own pace. You set the intensity, not the person next to you.
03How do I book my free trial?
Use the booking form on this page. It takes about a minute, and we will get back to you to confirm your class. If you would rather talk it through first, call or WhatsApp us and we will sort it from there.
04Do I need a gi or any equipment?
Not for your trial class. Turn up in a t-shirt and shorts and we’ll sort the rest. Once you decide to carry on, we’ll help you choose a gi.
05Do you have classes for kids?
Yes. Jiu Jitsu Kids is for ages 4 to 10 and Jiu Jitsu Teens for ages 11 to 15, both focused on confidence, discipline and character. We also run an After School Programme with pickup.
06Is there a women-only class?
Yes. A structured, women-only programme designed to help beginners learn with confidence and progress at their own pace.
07Do you train no-gi as well as gi?
Yes, both. Adult Jiu Jitsu classes are in the gi, while No-Gi Grappling is a separate programme, trained in shorts and a rash guard. Most members train both, building the same game through different grips.
08Where are you located?
107A Woolwich High Street, London SE18 6EA, just 7 minutes’ walk from Woolwich Station (Elizabeth Line), and easy to reach from Greenwich, Plumstead, Charlton and Abbey Wood.
09What are your opening hours?
Monday – Thursday 3:00pm – 9:30pm, Friday 6:00pm – 8:30pm, Saturday 9:30am – 1:30pm. Closed Sunday.
10Are there showers and changing rooms?
Yes. Clean facilities with hot showers and separate male and female changing rooms, so you can train around work.
11How much is membership?
Start with the free trial class: come and train, meet the coaches and see if the place is for you. If you want to carry on, we’ll walk you through the options in person and find the one that fits how often you can train.
12Am I tied into a contract?
Memberships at Stance Jiu Jitsu Academy operate with a monthly direct debit. There are no long commitments once you give us one month’s notice submitted via email. Simple!
